#Oleglow Voxbox review

Recently I received another VoxBox from Influenster, pretty exciting stuff! When the email came through that I was chosen for this box I definitely waited in anticipation for it to come.

Melt me tell you, this box did not disappoint. It came with deluxe sample sizes of four Ole Henriksen skincare products.

1. Power Bright: it is a card with three little pods of product. Step 1 truth sugar glow polishing mask, Step 2 truth 25% vitamin c concentrate and Step 3 pure truth melting cleanser. (Step 3 requires a professional cleansing sponge)

This trio of products left my skin feeing amazing, it was ultra moisturized without a heavy oily feeling, my skins texture was smoother and my face definitely appeared brighter.

2. Professional Cleansing Sponge: the box came with two of these. They kind of fee like cardboard at first so I was Leary of using them just because my skin is so sensitive. To my surprise they did not irritate my skin at all and gently buffed my skin.

3. Truth serum collagen booster: light weight with a pleasant citrus scent that is not overpowering. Left a smooth finish, was not sticky or greasy at all. Left my skin feeing  smooth and refreshed.

4. Sheer transformation facial creme: very light moisturizer good for use both day and night. Totally soaks in and does not leave any residue. Did not cause my combination skin to overproduce and did not flare up my acne prone skin.

I received these products free in return for my honest review by Influenster.

Recently joined influenster, it’s an app/site where you review products you have used and can possibly be sent free products to test. Within a couple of weeks I received my first box. It was from Venus by Gillette. Let me tell you, it is an amazing razor and I would definitely recommend it to others. I am one of those shave club members because I like to cheap out on things. While I do like their products I felt that this razor was superior.

So far So Good

So far the gym is going well. Slowly working my way up and adding a little time each visit. So far the current standing is 35 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of light weight training. Still working my way up, just don’t want to do it too quickly so I can gauge how my knee will handle it.  As of last night’s workout there has been no additional knee pain so that is a plus.  I plan on upping the cardio a little bit again tonight and possibly giving the red light therapy a go. I have been reading up on it and it sounds a bit like hocus pocus. Many comparisons to those vibrating belts from the 40’s. Just replace the vibrating belt with a platform. In now way do I believe that it will help with weight loss but maybe it could be relaxing?  If not tonight I will find out in the near future.

Is Red Light Therapy a glorified version of this? Who knows but I think I need to wear an outfit like these ladies are wearing to the gym tonight.

Is Red Light Therapy a glorified version of this? Who knows but I think I need to wear an outfit like these ladies are wearing to the gym tonight.

Trying to give this another go.

It has been a long time since I have been in the game. Honestly, I don’t recall when I was given the orders to sit on my rear and wait to work out. I think it has been 9 months. The waiting game has not been kind to me. Up a pant size (two pant sized depending on brand), my face is fairly rounded again and I feel sluggish and lazy. For a while my food choices were terrible. Take out became the norm once again. Oh the shame! Over the past few months I gradually cleaned up my diet and have been on track in that matter. Dropped a bit of weight. Not sure how much because I have yet to dust off the old torture device called the scale.

Still waiting to get into the specialist. It has been 5 months waiting for this one. The doctor told me until then I can do some sit down PT exercises while waiting to get in. This is very unsatisfying and discouraging. I have sat on my rear long enough and decided to take matters into my own hands for now. A proper diet has helped but I need to be active along with it. i happen to be one of those people who can’t lose the weight with diet alone. So the other night I signed up for a gym membership.

Doctor’s orders are to sit around but sitting here getting fatter and not being active can not be good for me either. The lack of activity doesn’t bode well with the psyche either. Don’t worry I am taking it easy and keeping anything that will affect my knees fairly low impact.

Yesterday new workout clothes needed to be purchased so Mr. Baby and I went and got 3 pairs of workout pants and 4 shirts. Every bit of workout gear in my  closet was from before he was born and let’s just say they are not too flattering to wear in public. Then last night I went to the most hated gym on the internet, Planet Fitness (the hours work for me and the price works with my budget) . Spent about a half hour on the bike then had to head home. I didn’t have much time available to spend there but something is better than nothing and I will take it.

Heading back to the gym tonight. For now my only goal is to go at least 3 nights a week and try my best to spend an hour there. No weight loss or fitness goals to begin with. The focus as of now is to get fitness back into my daily routine.

Where Have I Been?

Well, I have been here. Mostly home trying to occupy time. A little bit ago I had X-Rays done on my Knee. After the follow-up appointment put me in a funk. The doctor gave me a list of do’s and don’ts. More don’ts than do’s though. Not happy about it. But it is understandable. She is a great doctor and looking out for my best interests and my health.

So here is the diagnosis. Arthritis. Not Rheumatoid yet. But my RF is still climbing and that will come in time she said. So for now Osteoarthritis is the issue. She said I had it in multiple locations. Bleh! So she banned me from doing my workouts for 6 weeks. I have PT but it seems to be making it worse, that makes me cranky. Not just that but the fact that I have goals I want to meet and these PT exercises are not big calorie burners. Most of them are done seated, not much of a workout. Soon I will be allowed to do some yoga though. I am looking forward to getting to do anything right now.

The point in the PT is to get the joint stronger and more lubricated. Then I go back and see the doctor and she is going to see where things are at pain wise. If they are not satisfactory she will refer me to an Orthopedic specialist and start me on corticosteroid injections in the knee. The way the knee is now that I am going through the PT it is pretty much a given the injections will happen. I am ready to get them. I have enough pain from the Fybromyalgia and Raynaud’s disease.

All I know is I am ready to get back to “real”, more productive workouts. I want to see results. I don’t want to sit around on my ass all day when I would rather get in some Pump or jog or even power walk. In due time though. Patience is key and pushing it and possible opening myself up to further injury is not a worth risk taking.

So I am around. I am pouting. I am bored. But I am alright. Hoping soon things will start going my way, if not with the help of the doctor we can hopefully find a middle ground that satisfies both of us.

I may not blog daily but I will still blog on occasion until things get moving again.

Days 38 & 39 of Les Mills Pump

lmp day 38 and 39

Days 38 and 39 of 120 Days of Les Mills Pump are officially completed.

Yesterday’s workout was Pump and Shred. I kind of listened to the doctor and cut out the lunges. I still did the squats just did them with half the weight on the bar as normal and didn’t dig as deep as normal. Modified the plank track and just held plank while they were doing the planks with alternating arm circles. The whole splint thing made those impossible to do.

Hard Core Abs as well as Flow were on the calendar for today. Both went well. The splint is off my hand so I was able to give the alternating push up planks a go. I got a few sets in before it started to hurt my hand, once that happened I held plank. I just can’t wait for this knuckle to heal up so I can get back to doing things properly. Flow went well.  Did not have to modify anything but did not feel as stretched out and loose as i normally do after completing the practice.  Probably because I am a genius that decided that eating spicy Thai soup 20 minutes before abs and yoga was a great idea. Those down dogs were spicy. Not in a good way either. The heartburn is still haunting me!

It was nice being able to workout during daylight hours today though! Housework and things like that were passed on so i could head down while Mr. Baby napped. No biggie, there is always tomorrow. It surely is not happening tonight.  Tonight was Fall Fest at Emma’s school and wearing Mr. Baby around pooped me out!

Exercise and Fibromyalgia

When I first started blogging I spent a day or two a week and focused on writing about something other than a daily log of my exercise routine or the happenings of my days. Honestly, since starting back up with the blog it has been mundane. Just a countdown of days and commentary about what routine the Les Mills Pump calendar tells me to do. I am sure many people are getting pretty bored with reading the same things over and over and over again. So from here on out I will try my best to mix in some other health and/or fitness related articles in. Mix things up a bit.

Most people know i suffer with Fibromyalgia. It makes life harder. Sometimes even the touch of my clothing against my skin hurts. It can wear on you to always be in pain and to not be able to have the quality of life you crave. Motivating to get things done is hard when you are battling with the chronic fatigue and depression that comes along with it. Most people don’t understand what fibromyalgia is. I will assure you it is real, it is not an excuse and it is hard to live with. With the help of my doctor we have found a combination of medications and physical activities that helps cope with the fibromyalgia and improve my daily life.

What is Fibromyalgia?

The word Fibromyalgia comes from the Latin term for fibrous tissue (fibro) and the Greek words for muscle (myo) and pain (algia). Fibromyalgia is a condition that affects around 1 and 3 percent of people. The debilitating syndrome includes stiffness, chronic fatigue, diffuse tenderness, widespread muscle aches and pains, numbness, nutritional deficiencies, migraines and muscle spasms. It can make everyday activities such as working with your arms, walking, carrying objects, and most everyday chores hard to accomplish. In my own experience during a flare it is especially hard to do anything where my arms have to be raised up or have to do the same repeated motions in general. Most people who have this condition have to deal with pain, fatigue, psychological distresses and difficulty coping with stress. Fibromyalgia is thought to be caused by increased sensitivity to pain as well as environmental factors.

Fibro is quite often considered an arthritic condition even though it is not a form of arthritis because it does not inflame or damage the joints or muscles. However it does cause significant pain and fatigue and it can interfere with a person’s ability to perform simple everyday tasks. Just like arthritis, fibro is categorized as a rheumatic condition. Simply put a condition that impairs soft tissues and joints as well as causing chronic pain.

Exercise and Fibromyalgia

Many people think that common sense would suggest that people with fibromyalgia should not exercise or be anything other than sedentary.  In reality you can’t afford not to be at least a little active when you have fibro. But it seems that most patients with fibromyalgia avoid physical activity and limit it due to fears that it will worsen their symptoms.

Exercise when done properly will interrupt the downhill spiral of muscle and cardiovascular reconditioning which can lead to loss of function or atrophy. Deconditioning can and will lead to increased pain and soreness after the smallest amounts of activity. It can also lead to or worsen tight muscles, lack of range of motion and postural balances. All these things put further strain on the body and make moving harder.

A well-balanced exercise routine had been shown to be one of the most effective treatments for fibromyalgia. Just remember that starting can be a challenge and to star small with simple activities such as walking and other gentile exercises. It is important to slowly build up endurance slowly. Just be sure that a doctor approves your activities and be sure to be honest with your doctor about how certain activities affect your pain level, flexibility and general mobility. Many doctors recommend being active and if your doctor has not brought up the option to you talk to him and find out what you can do. From personal experience exercise has helped with the depression and moodiness that comes along with having to deal with chronic pain. With more strength and increased flexibility everyday tasks are not as impossible. I only have to take maybe two breaks from blow-drying my hair instead of the break every minute to minute of a half of holding a blow drier. It may sound lame but small victories are victories nonetheless. An accomplishment or positive change is positive and even small victories deserve celebration.

Exercising releases the levels of stress hormones in the body such as cortisol and adrenaline so it has a neurochemical benefit to fibro patients. Exercise also increases the body’s production of endorphins and those are your body’s natural painkillers and mood elevators. Along with those benefits there is the sense of pride and confidence in knowing you accomplished something. Your strength and stamina will increase and there is even the possibility to have your waist like shrink!

Just to be clear, I am not in any way, shape or form a doctor or any type of medical professional. This was written based on my own personal experience as a person with fibromyalgia, what I have learned from my wonderful doctors as well as books, articles and medical journals on the subject of fibromyalgia. Be sure to clear any exercise routine with your doctor. And remember every person feels the effects of fibromyalgia differently.  Physical activity may not be recommended in every case. But it does improve the quality of my life.

Day 37 of 120 & Doctor Visit Day

lmp day 37

The stitches are officially out! And that is the only good news I got today. So at the visit she decided the stitches definitely needed to come out because they were tearing the skin a bit and causing quite a bit of discomfort.  But here is the kicker. the wound still needs a little time so I get to wear a sexy splint on my finger with a tongue depressor behind it to keep my finger and knuckle from bending, a lovely butterfly closure and some tape over that for at least the next 24 hours. YAY! *note sarcasm.  So workouts were and will be affected by that.

She also took a look at my knee. It constantly sounds like two stones rubbing together. Her thoughts are either the kneecap is slightly off or Osteoarthritis. Neither would be serious so I am not too worried if either is the case. I am scheduled for an x-ray and have a follow-up on November 8th and will know for sure what the issue is. The part that gets me is that she said no running, no jogging, no aerobics, no lunges, and no squats until after my follow-up appointment and we know for sure what is going on. Honestly, the no lunges part did not bother me at all. Everyone knows I loathe lunges. Thinking I am going to keep the squats but just not hit them as hard. Time to be a rebel. Plus I just don’t see how it can hurt doing it for a couple of weeks more. I would miss out on so much of the Les MIlls Pump program if I cut everything out. I will not run, jog, do aerobics or lunge and will cut back on the squats.  Going to do my best at sticking with the program as much as possible and just modify the hell out of certain things for now.

Today’s scheduled workout was Hard Core Abs along with a 40 minute walk. Got through hard core abs minus the last track. No way i wan balance myself on my hand with this darn splint and tongue depressor on it. For the walking portion I hopped on the treadmill and just walked at a fairly brisk pace.

IMAG1773

You can’t see it but the tongue depressor shoved behind the splint it not comfortable. Doesn’t this just look super fun?!

Lunges Suck

lmp day 36

Well not really. I just don’t like them. It hurts and I swear through the entire track. In between the billion lunges that you have to do during the leg track on Les Mills Pump, Pump & Shred there is a short burst of squats. Those squats are like heaven. Because they relieve the pressure from my calves and knees and because they are not lunges. I may not like them but I still push through them every time. I’d rather do anything else. Really hoping I can build up to doing them without it sucking so bad and not have to yell at the trainer on the DVD and call her horrible names while dropping the F-Bomb in between that. One of these days. Right? It is a good thing it is a DVD because the foul language spewing from my mouth would get me banned from any public place for sure. I could totally make a sailor blush.

So today was the first day of Phase Two and Day 36 of Les Mills Pump. So that leaves 86 days until Round One is completed. Today’s workout was of course Pump and Shred as I stated above. It went well. During the squat track I was able to double the weight on the bar this time. Super exciting! Thinking for the back track I will up the weight once these darn stitches are out and the Clean and Presses can be done with a full on grip. During those I have been holding the bar with my bum finger extended instead of gripping the bar. To much pressure on the stitches. The stitches come out tomorrow afternoon. Hoping the gash is closed up enough to return to life as normal.

Now It is time to have a healthy snack and focus on watching a movie. Halloween II started right when I started blogging! Love, Love, Love all the horror movies that are on in October. If my family weren’t a bunch of scaredy cats they would be on 24/7!
