So far the gym is going well. Slowly working my way up and adding a little time each visit. So far the current standing is 35 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of light weight training. Still working my way up, just don’t want to do it too quickly so I can gauge how my knee will handle it. As of last night’s workout there has been no additional knee pain so that is a plus. I plan on upping the cardio a little bit again tonight and possibly giving the red light therapy a go. I have been reading up on it and it sounds a bit like hocus pocus. Many comparisons to those vibrating belts from the 40’s. Just replace the vibrating belt with a platform. In now way do I believe that it will help with weight loss but maybe it could be relaxing? If not tonight I will find out in the near future.

Well, I have been here. Mostly home trying to occupy time. A little bit ago I had X-Rays done on my Knee. After the follow-up appointment put me in a funk. The doctor gave me a list of do’s and don’ts. More don’ts than do’s though. Not happy about it. But it is understandable. She is a great doctor and looking out for my best interests and my health.
So here is the diagnosis. Arthritis. Not Rheumatoid yet. But my RF is still climbing and that will come in time she said. So for now Osteoarthritis is the issue. She said I had it in multiple locations. Bleh! So she banned me from doing my workouts for 6 weeks. I have PT but it seems to be making it worse, that makes me cranky. Not just that but the fact that I have goals I want to meet and these PT exercises are not big calorie burners. Most of them are done seated, not much of a workout. Soon I will be allowed to do some yoga though. I am looking forward to getting to do anything right now.
The point in the PT is to get the joint stronger and more lubricated. Then I go back and see the doctor and she is going to see where things are at pain wise. If they are not satisfactory she will refer me to an Orthopedic specialist and start me on corticosteroid injections in the knee. The way the knee is now that I am going through the PT it is pretty much a given the injections will happen. I am ready to get them. I have enough pain from the Fybromyalgia and Raynaud’s disease.
All I know is I am ready to get back to “real”, more productive workouts. I want to see results. I don’t want to sit around on my ass all day when I would rather get in some Pump or jog or even power walk. In due time though. Patience is key and pushing it and possible opening myself up to further injury is not a worth risk taking.
So I am around. I am pouting. I am bored. But I am alright. Hoping soon things will start going my way, if not with the help of the doctor we can hopefully find a middle ground that satisfies both of us.
I may not blog daily but I will still blog on occasion until things get moving again.
The stitches are officially out! And that is the only good news I got today. So at the visit she decided the stitches definitely needed to come out because they were tearing the skin a bit and causing quite a bit of discomfort. But here is the kicker. the wound still needs a little time so I get to wear a sexy splint on my finger with a tongue depressor behind it to keep my finger and knuckle from bending, a lovely butterfly closure and some tape over that for at least the next 24 hours. YAY! *note sarcasm. So workouts were and will be affected by that.
She also took a look at my knee. It constantly sounds like two stones rubbing together. Her thoughts are either the kneecap is slightly off or Osteoarthritis. Neither would be serious so I am not too worried if either is the case. I am scheduled for an x-ray and have a follow-up on November 8th and will know for sure what the issue is. The part that gets me is that she said no running, no jogging, no aerobics, no lunges, and no squats until after my follow-up appointment and we know for sure what is going on. Honestly, the no lunges part did not bother me at all. Everyone knows I loathe lunges. Thinking I am going to keep the squats but just not hit them as hard. Time to be a rebel. Plus I just don’t see how it can hurt doing it for a couple of weeks more. I would miss out on so much of the Les MIlls Pump program if I cut everything out. I will not run, jog, do aerobics or lunge and will cut back on the squats. Going to do my best at sticking with the program as much as possible and just modify the hell out of certain things for now.
Today’s scheduled workout was Hard Core Abs along with a 40 minute walk. Got through hard core abs minus the last track. No way i wan balance myself on my hand with this darn splint and tongue depressor on it. For the walking portion I hopped on the treadmill and just walked at a fairly brisk pace.
Well not really. I just don’t like them. It hurts and I swear through the entire track. In between the billion lunges that you have to do during the leg track on Les Mills Pump, Pump & Shred there is a short burst of squats. Those squats are like heaven. Because they relieve the pressure from my calves and knees and because they are not lunges. I may not like them but I still push through them every time. I’d rather do anything else. Really hoping I can build up to doing them without it sucking so bad and not have to yell at the trainer on the DVD and call her horrible names while dropping the F-Bomb in between that. One of these days. Right? It is a good thing it is a DVD because the foul language spewing from my mouth would get me banned from any public place for sure. I could totally make a sailor blush.
So today was the first day of Phase Two and Day 36 of Les Mills Pump. So that leaves 86 days until Round One is completed. Today’s workout was of course Pump and Shred as I stated above. It went well. During the squat track I was able to double the weight on the bar this time. Super exciting! Thinking for the back track I will up the weight once these darn stitches are out and the Clean and Presses can be done with a full on grip. During those I have been holding the bar with my bum finger extended instead of gripping the bar. To much pressure on the stitches. The stitches come out tomorrow afternoon. Hoping the gash is closed up enough to return to life as normal.
Now It is time to have a healthy snack and focus on watching a movie. Halloween II started right when I started blogging! Love, Love, Love all the horror movies that are on in October. If my family weren’t a bunch of scaredy cats they would be on 24/7!
Phase One of Les Mills Pump is officially completed. Tomorrow is the beginning of Phase Two. Phase Two really steps things up. No more Pump and Burn with the exception of 1 day that it is paired with Hard Core Abs, no more 30 minute workout days. Hoping that Phase Two revs up the results. Honestly there are no complaints to be made as far as results go as of yet. Was losing on average 1.35 pounds per week. Not too shabby if i do say so myself.
Today’s workout was Hard Core Abs along with a 45 minute walk. Opted for the 45 minute walk today. Most of the day was fairly rough. Woke up feeling terrible and had some sulfur esque issues. Most of the day was wasted in bed. I am positive that it was due to my poor food choices yesterday. Lesson learned. Sure indulging in something within reason is not a terrible thing to do. But overindulgence is not good.
Yesterday was day 32 of 120 Days of Les Mills Pump. The good old stitched up hand was throbbing so I swapped yesterday with today. Day 33 was a rest day so I figured why not. So yesterday was deemed a rest day. spent the day at a doctor’s office (always fun), had lunch with a good friend, babysat, cooked dinner and all that fun stuff. And you can’t forget that it was Thursday and Vampire Diaries was on!
Today’s workout was Hard Core Abs and Flow. Got a few of the Plank to Push Ups in then had to drop down to a regular plank. Not that I couldn’t do them but it was hurting the good old hand. This knuckle thing is ridiculous. You never notice how much you need to use it until it is stitched up. I swear the thing looks like an evil smile face. During flow I didn’t get all the moves in for the same reason. My best was put into it and that is what matters.
Had a houseful of kids this evening, it was a lot of fun! Mr Baby stayed up past his baby bedtime relishing in all the fun and excitement. Hoping this means he sleeps good for me tonight! He even took a minute of his time to pinch where my stitches are and rip one of them a bit. OUCH!!
Food wise I have been pretty good at staying clean. Things that are not taste fake now so it is easier to not give into temptation. It will only keep getting easier!
Now it is time to finish watching Silver Bullet and try to get 475 more calories in for the day. Kind of behind!
Today’s scheduled workout was Pump and Burn. Not a whole ton to report about it. Just the same old Pump and Burn. It was highly productive but nothing fantastic happened during.
Did some shopping and got started on getting the Halloween Decorations up. Thought the black lights I put in the porch were going to start a fire and there was a beehive in the recess lighting out there. I about had a heart attack!
Well, that was about the jist of things for the day. Pretty uneventful.
Whew! I am sore and exhausted. Today’s workout was Pump and Shred. It was nice to have a new workout added into the routine. Spices things up and helps keep my interest. This is the third disc in the Les Mills Pump System, it is a 45 minute Body Pump workout that is 45 minutes long and it focuses on the back, chest, hamstrings, quads as well as the abs.
With the stitched up knuckle grasping a bar (especially with weight on it) is out of the question. It puts too much pressure on the stitches and possibility of ripping them out does not sound appealing in any way whatsoever. For a few things I was able to use the bar and just rest it on the heel of my hand or in the groove between the pointer finger and the thumb. For everything else I found a set of ankle weights in the basement and strapped them onto my wrist. Not much weight but I like the idea of using those over using no weight at all. During the plank portion (they call it a hover) I had to settle with just doing some extra crunches and an Iron Cross.
All in all the workout went great and I sweat my butt off. Hopefully literally because that is the point in doing all of this. Tomorrow is weigh in day. I am super nervous to see if my 30 day goal has been met. I really hope so because there have been just too many issues to work past and I honestly feel that it screwed everything up. We shall see though.
From the title you would know that today was day 28 of 120 days of Les Mills Pump. On the schedule today was Flow. Flow is a yoga workout. I did my best but was unable to put weight on my hand so it wasn’t the greatest workout. Sticking within physical limitations I did my best and that is what matters right? Please tell me I am right. Medical issues really seem to be getting in the way of getting through this program.
Really hoping I will be able to grasp and hold onto the weights tomorrow. If not the workout will have to be done sans weight. If my fingers are bent or any pressure is put on my hand it pulls at the stitches. Let me tell you. It is quite painful. At this moment it is still bleeding too so who knows. I wonder if she should have put more than two stitches in. Word of advice do not gash open your knuckle. Pain in the butt to do anything!
I feel like I have done this before..
Back to Day 25 today. Now that there is more feeling in my thigh balance and form are not as much of a problem. Granted there are still issues and the workout was not exactly comfortable, could be worse though. No workout could have happened.
Today’s scheduled workout was Hard Core Abs along with a 45 minute walk. Hard Core Abs went well, a tad bit harder than normal. Possibly due to the fact that I have skipped workouts this past week and that took its toll. In place of the 34 minute walk I did 35 minutes of low impact aerobics. Started to feel quite imbalanced so I skipped the last 5 minutes and went straight to the cool down. It was possible to push through it but I didn’t. It is not as easy to push through things when you have medical issues. In no way am I disappointed in the workout and it definitely got my heart rate up and a good sweat going.
So it looks like I am back in action! Just in time for the RunScreamRun 5k on Saturday. Definitely just power walking through this one. Dr didn’t give me the go ahead to try running. no matter what it will be a ton of fun and I am very much looking forward to my 3 mile power walk.
Food wise I am still on target. Eating clean, taking in 1,700 cals a day and drinking LOTS of water.
Time to make dinner and put together my costume for Saturday. Hope everyone has had a terrific Thursday!
